THINK AND THE CASE OF THE MISSING NUMBER
An exciting adventure that makes
math fun!
Math problems are cleverly woven into this intriguing
mystery adventure. The number 12 is missing from Dr. Think’s new invention!
He and his lab assistant, Skully, follow the math clues to track down the
thief. Children learn how they, too, can become math detectives. (separate
versions for grades K-2, and 3-6)
Dr. Think, creator of the
Time Machine, Problem Solving Machine, and Thinkometer; has created his most
thinkable invention ever—Dr. Think’s Literature to Life Machine! Along
with his lab assistant, Skully (a puppet character), Dr. Think attempts to bring
Sherlock Holmes to life. When the machine does not work, he discovers that the
number 12 is missing from the machine. Who stole the number 12, and sabotaged
the machine— and why? Dr. Think and Skully emulate Dr. Watson and Sherlock
Holmes to solve "The Case of the Missing Number."
Dr. Think explains that just like people leave fingerprints and footprints,
numbers leave number prints. Number prints are math problems that yield a
number. The two sleuths must find the correct number prints, and follow the
path to find the missing number. Along the way, they find a clockmaker who is
missing the number 12 on all his clocks, a carpenter who is missing the number
12 on his ruler, and a grocer who is missing all the egg cartons which held 12
eggs each. With help from the audience in solving the math problems
encountered in the number prints, Dr. Think and Skully eventually discover
that the Literature to Life Machine mistakenly brought back the arch villain,
Professor Moriarty. Moriarty has stolen all the number twelves so that he can
have the month of December for himself, and keep everyone’s holiday gifts.
With help from the audience, they lure Moriarty into the machine and send him
back into the book, restoring the number twelves to the world.
Through humor, music, mime, theatre and audience participation, Craig
Babcock makes math fun. He shows the audience that there are numbers around us
wherever we look, and we can all learn to be math detectives by looking for
the right clues. Don’t miss this invaluable experience from a master
performer and educator. Arrange a visit from DR. THINK today!
